Fusion: 2012’s Easy and Effective Exercise Choice

Let’s tackle more of those 2012 New Year Resolutions, shall we? A healthy body, mind and spirit requires not only the right nutrition, but also the right exercise.  As we age, it’s harder to choose a path that fits our weight, flexibility, strength, endurance and possible injury history. Choose the wrong path and you get hurt or discouraged and, finally, give up.

Enter Fusion.  My friend and personal physical therapist Christine Springer, who leads the consulting arm of the business as Master Coach for Fusion. When clients need more personal guidance or develop a problem that prevents them from training the way they want, they can schedule an in-person consult to get advice and solutions specifically tailored to them.

“It’s like smart boot camp meets yoga meets clean eating,” she said when I asked what makes Fusion different.

Here’s what got me excited:

1.  Professional guidance without the gym membership.  As an Internet-based system developed by Doug Kelsey, you can workout from anywhere at anytime using customized video workouts.  Christine is available to answer questions and even meet you in person if you’re experiencing pain or need additional help.  Access to forums and a blog are other ways to keep motivated. You’ll also avoid expensive “joining” fees that lock you into a gym membership. Fusion runs $20/month for full access with no long-term commitments (personal coaching time is extra). If you don’t already have them, hand weights and an exercise band are required for many routines.

2.  Your routine is based on your current physical status. First, you complete and record an easy performance test and learn your “zone” in various physical categories.  You might be a Green Zone in upper body strength, a Yellow Zone in balance, and a knee injury may put you in the Red Zone for lower body endurance.  Second, the corresponding workout videos/routine are compiled and available for you to use.  That means you minimize the risk of injury but also maximize the workout’s purpose.  So, you’ll see results and stick with it longer.
