Spring is in the air if you live in Austin. Bushes are blooming, and we hit 87 degrees last week. While I mourn packing away my winter coats so soon, I’m excited about the spring trends and new possibilities for my wardrobe.
Here are my top picks and some advice on how to pull them off based on your body shape and color scheme. In an effort to push you out of your comfort zone, I *DARE* you to try some of these trends 😀
MiracleBody Straight Leg $104 - Zappos.com
Colorful Jeans. Substitute your dark-wash denim for an uplifting tangerine, lapis or emerald green jean. Many are skinny-legged, but straight leg is a better bet for most body shapes. If you have long legs, a be-jeweled ballet flat adds spunk. For short legs, a funky pair of espadrilles will get you on your way. Bottom heavy women take note: Wear a top that is a either the same shade or lighter/brighter to create visual balance.
Seyfried in Ferretti
Art Deco. The lines, the beads, the flare! These are party patterns if ever there were. Line placement and movement are the key to success. If you have softly curving facial features and/or wavy hair, be sure there are circular or curved patterns mixed into the overall design for maximum effect. Amanda Seyfried chose this Alberta Ferretti dress that complements her round facial features and she added a wave to her hair to boot. If you have wide hips, this dress may not be the best choice b/c the pattern creates a bold horizontal zig-zag that widens the area; but you martini-glass shaped ladies will love it!
Bead collar from ASOS.com
Embellished Collars. Embellished collars are a great alternative to statement necklaces and perfect for Austin’s warm spring. Keep fabrics and hardware in your optimal color palette. Pair it up with simple diamond studs and a statement ring. Convertible and Peter Pan collars are the rage (as opposed to large bib-style beading from previous seasons). If you have a hard time finding one you like, buy a collar that you can wear over just about everything you own like this one from ASOS.com. Or DIY by attaching brooches or earrings you already own!
Beads not your thing? Try a print collar like this Equipment silk top at Nordstrom. If you have a short neck, find beading or prints that run down the button line to elongate. Or, stick with your statement necklaces that fall at or below your collar bone.
